Fishing trip 1938

This old album contains images of a fishing and camping trip that Stan and his friends took from Calgary into the Canmore area. From there, they hired pack horses and headed into the mountains. He was 21, and clearly into photography by then. His pals must have been photographers too, capturing some nice shots of Stan in action. In one, he is caught casting for trout, in another, showing off his catch. I believe the photos are completely Stan’s work, other than the shots he is in, but since I can’t be absolutely sure, I have given no photo credits. It doesn’t really matter much; the album is still great evidence of Stan’s early love of photography, and of the outdoors. He was already on the path he would ardently follow for the rest of his life.

A sampling from the album. Some smaller photos are cropped for formatting. Click on them for a more complete view.
